American singer-songwriter, Kenny Loggins, wrote "Danny's Song" for his brother Danny Loggins when he became the father of a boy named Colin---his first son. The song was part of a 1971 Loggins and Messina album called "Sittin' In" and was singled out for a significant amount of radio airplay.
Anne Murray's version in 1972 earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Murray stated that she loved the song, and it came to have special significance for her after the birth of her first child a few years later.
